Feature Races, Barriers Info & Starting Positions:
The Devonport Racing Club was formed in 1902, the course is located at Spreyton Park. The track has gone through several upgrades to cope with the heavy load of training here, being converted to a sand track in 1989 and then in 2011 to an all-weather synthetic track of “Tapeta”.This high-tech track contains sand, rubber and fibre with a wax coating and is unaffected by heat, rain or cold temperatures, the same track as Meydan in Dubai. It is the first of its kind to be built in Australia.
The course consists of a back straight with a chute leading into it giving all runners in sprint races up to 1200m a fair start and the final straight at around 350m allows backmarkers to run on if they are good enough. The two corners are large and open so generally the whole track plays well at all distances with very little bias and is unaffected by the weather.
