Morphettville Parks Barriers Starting Positions:
1000m: Starts on the side of the course with a long straight run to the home turn, barriers no importance.
1250m: Starts in a long chute inside the main course, inside barriers a slight advantage.
1400m: Begins at the top of the inside chute, long run to the first turn and barriers of no importance.
1500m: Located just before the turn into the inner chute, long run before the turn and barriers no importance.
1950m (2000m): Barriers are positioned just after the winning post, barriers of no importance.
2300m & 2400m: with a straight run before the first turn just out of the home straight barriers are irrelevant.
Allan Scott Park Barriers Starting Positions:
1000m & 1100m: Located on the side of the course with a short straight into the home turn. Inside barriers have an advantage.
1200m: with a straight run of more than 300m before the home turn barriers are of little importance.
1500m & 1600m: Begins on the back straight before a long sweeping turn. Barriers of little importance.
1800m: Starts in a chute off the back straight. Long straight run before the turn, barriers of no importance.
2000m: Begins just after the winning post, barriers no importance.
2500m: With a straight run before the winning post until the first turn, barriers are irrelevant.
3200m: The Adelaide Cup start is just before the turn into the home straight. There is little bias due to the distance involved, but it is generally preferred to start from an inside gate.
Circumference of the original Allan Scott Park Morphettville track is 2307m with 340m in the straight, the new Morphettville Parks is 2100m with a straight run to the winning post of 320m.
Characteristics: a generous course with wide sweeping turns, generally very fair. Racing is in an anti-clockwise direction.
Allan Scott Park: the original Morphettville track, renovated in 2002 and now one of the best courses in Australia offering a fair surface for all runners.
Morphettville Parks: The new course features a long straight run down the back enabling them to race over 1400m which the original course does not. Generally very fair, although inside barriers are an advantage in sprint races.
Racing at Morphettville is run by the South Australian Jockey Club. In 2009, a new inner track was introduced at Morphettville to replace the tracks at Victoria Park and Cheltenham.
