History: First run in 1890, the Stradbroke is the richest race in the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival. Race has produced some outstanding middle distance horses, including filly Dane Ripper who went on to win the Cox Plate in 1997.
Past Champion Winners: Rough Habit (1991 & '92) Never Undercharge (1993), All Our Mob (1994), Dane Ripper (1997), Show a Heart (2002), Snipers Bullet (2007)
Lead Up Form: Doomben 10000, QTC Cup. Seven of the last eleven winners of the Stradbroke Handicap came through the Doomben 10,000, although the last horse to win the double was Campaign King in 1988. A few horses have won back to back Stadbrokes including Lucky Ring (1949 & 1950), Rough Habit (1991 & 1992) & Black Piranha (2009 & 2010).
Support races: Queensland Derby, T J Smith Stakes, Brisbane Cup.
Time: Track record for the 1400m at Eagle Farm is 1:20.20 (Toledo, Stradbroke Handicap 1998)
Track Bias, Barriers: Barriers are of little importance, horses are usually capable of finishing on late. Tough event, look for runners who can run a strong 1600m.
Weight, Statistics: Light weights have a good record with the majority of winners carrying 50-55kgs. However, an exceptional horse can win with more weight like Rough Habit which won with 55kgs in 1991 and 58.5kgs in 1992.
